The tall man slips from the shadows,
towering in tails bidding all welcome with a
“Come follow me. This will be a night to remember.
The greatest show in the city.” Wide grinning,
he spins with big gesturing bows from waist to floor.
He does a dance, extends a hand that is not his own,
Says, “There’s nothing to fear,” and leads the way.
The doors close.
In the halls somewhere beneath the big top,
the clowns perform and children giggle,
but one by one the laughing begin to scream.
