walking into the falling out

the separation of relations

tattered sails on night ships

fade into an ocean’s black pitch

there was something in the tone

changing, a flickering hesitation

I don’t remember beginning

but the tearing in my chest

told me it was the end

irreconcilable resolutions

a stone faced resolve in painful decisions

my breath quick and my heart skips

then walking away, I knew

by the brilliance of the moon

and the darkness of day

by the abbreviated embrace

and the turning away
